Why did the United States get


involved?
Latin America had dictator governments they were often intervened with by the
U.S.S.R. and the U.S. The U.S.S.R wanted to spread communism in to those countries
but the U.S. didn't want them to be communist so they provided support for those
governments.
What is the difference between left and right wing? And why is it confusing
Left wingers are known as liberals and believe that the government should support the
people through programs like health care. Rights wingers are known has conservatives
and believe more in small government and value an individuals achievements over there
social responsibility.
Why did the United States get involved in Cuba?
United States got involved because cube is in close proximity of the united states and
became an enemy when it became communist. The United States was also deeply
involved in the economy there.
Whats a banana republic?
Country with a powerless government that is controlled by a company to export and
produce a product.
How did the CIA get involved in Guatemala?
The dictator of Guatemala enacted communist reforms that were communist like so
the CIA helped with a coup to overthrow him.
What is the other infamous September 11th?
The United States helped overthrow the government of Chile and put Augusto
Pinochet in charge with a coup on September 11. Pinochet was a harsh ruler and the
people suffered human rights violations killing thousands
Who were the disappeared in Argentina?
The disappeared were people in Argentina who were killed because they opposed the
political views of the authoritative government in power

Why was in controversial when the United States intervened in Nicaragua?


Because the United States supplied weapons to the contras who were anti-communist
just because the U.S.S.R. supplied weapons to the other side. After congress said the
president couldnt send weapons anymore he sent them to Iran who then sent them to
the contras.
What violence occurred in Brazil and El Salvador?
In Brazil after the great depression a dictator turned Brazil into a fascist state. the
poor were forced to sleep in the slums or favelos.
In El Salvador a civil war broke out in 1979 between right wing and left wing guerilla
fighters. The right wing fighters had the support of the U.S. and the fighting lasted
until 1992 when the sides signed a peace treaty.
