Twisted

CHARACTERS
Nick (played by Brianna): 35 yr old, successful lawyer who is in a dating relationship with Chris
(described below). Nick is rigid, not extremely social, sporty, and not the feminine guy in the
relationship. Later on in the story, he finds something inside of him he never knew it was there.
He also doesnt like peer pressure and he finds value in family.
Chris (played by Aimee): 33 yr old, yoga instructor who is the feminine gay guy in the
relationship. He doesnt care what people think of him. Hes the reason why people know hes
dating Nick, so hes an attention seeker. Hes also very emotional, clingy, and takes his problems
over drinking.
Lauren (played by Samara): 30 yr old, beautiful lady who is seductive, lenient towards anything
in life.
Nicks Mom(played by Sara): 65 yr old, nagging woman, who doesnt like homosexuals.
Narrator (played by Sara): has no distinct connection to the story line but explains the audience
what is happening.
SETTINGS
[This will be the intro of the play. Time is 21st century in a non distinct place because this is the
part when the narrator explains the whole background of the story. But for the rest of the play,
there will ideally be roughly 4 settings (this can change): Nicks moms house, the restaurant,
Nicks apartment, and the beach. In the first scene, the narrator explains the relationship between
Nick and Chris. Eventually, leading up to the Nicks moms apartment as the first real setting of
the play).
[before play starts, Nick and Chris are standing next to each other and the narrator is somewhere
on the side]

Narrator: This is Nick, and this is Chris [gestures to Nick and Chris]. They have been best friends
for 10 years (Nick and Chris punches each other on the shoulder), fell in love in college (holds

hands), and stayed committed for 6 years (Nick puts arm around Chris shoulder). During all that
time, Nick and Chris dated secretly, until recently when Chris became extremely fed up with the
secrecy and started telling everyone he and Nick knew, about their dating relationship (Chris
gestures in the air as though hes telling people). Chris family is happy for him, but Nicks family
isnt. They become upset about it. One day, Nick goes to his moms house for his weekly visits,
and tries to have a decent conversation with her, but like all visits, Nicks moms doesnt want to
let go with the whole homosexual partnership he has with Chris. (Narrator stops talking, and
goes into a sitting position with Nick as though theyre in the house. Theyre about to argue).

Nicks Mom: Nick, dont you understand my distress? Dont you understand how much this is
hurting the family? I know you love this man, but there is no such thing as a man loving another
man. Thats not how God made us to be. How will I have grandchildren? I cant even look at you
the same. (looks away from Nick)

Nick: Mom, were gonna adopt. Were still going to have a wedding. Were still going to do all
the hopeful things every marry couples dream of its just with a man I fell in love with.

Nicks mom: No! youre just confused! (raising her voice) You just need to go on a date with a
woman. She is out there! You just need to look!

Nick: Mom, how are you so blind? Stop trying and dont try to change anything between me and
Chris. What dont you understand? I AM IN LOVE (emphasizes words) and theres nothing you
can change.

Nicks mom: (nagging voice) For the love of god youre impossible!! Just go on one stikin date
with a phenomenal woman I have in mind for you!

Nick: (shouting) FINE MOM. JUST FINE. I WILL GO ON ONE STUPID DATE WITH THIS
WOMAN. JUST LEAVE ME ALONE ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIS AND
ACCEPT HIM AS PART OF OUR FAMILY OR FOR GODS SAKE DISOWN ME AS YOUR
OWN SON!
(scene ends with Nick walking out and new scene begins with Nick sitting waiting for Lauren)
Nick: (squirms, clearly showing he doesnt want to be there.)
[suddenly, Lauren walks in with a strut. Nicks jaw drops and is completely dazed by Lauren.
Narrator starts explaining things that is going through Nicks mind and as Lauren is walking
towards Nick]

Narrator: He feels his heart skip a beat when he first lays eyes on her, and finds his palms sweaty.
He reminds himself, this will only be an hour date and Ill be cuddling with Chris tonight. But,
hes hesitant and realizes that he is attracted to her. Before he met Chris, he had relationships
with women before, but nothing too serious. It wasnt until he met Chris where he knew he was
gay, but he never left the possibility of identifying himself as a bisexual, he just never told Chris.

[Lauren sits down and Nick is dazed and Lauren knows shes got him at the palm of her hands. ]
Nick: (speechless) I uh.. (pulls her chair out for Lauren. She smiles and clearly finds Nick
attractive).
(some random dialogue, and as the conversation continues, Lauren becomes touchy with Nick;
accidentally grabs his hand, his arms commenting how strong he is, then at the end of the date,
she pretends to trip and he catches her and she kisses Nick on the cheek (if you have any
suggestions please say so because Im not completely sure what to write on this date scene).
[The next morning, Nick goes home and sees his partner asleep. Chris doesnt realize that Nick
was gone all night, and doesnt even ask where he was last night. Nick seems dazed about the
night before, but doesnt tell Chris anything about it. Nick continues to see Lauren secretly, but
openly tells other people that hes with Chris. His passion for Chris decreases though, and its
evident through his lack of affection towards Chris. A couple of times, Chris would try to give
Nick a kiss and Nick would just move his head and make the kiss into a peck on the cheek.
Months go by, and Nick falls more and more in love with Lauren and less in love with Chris.]

[One night, Nick comes home from work with his business suit, and Chris throws himself on
Nick in the attempts of trying to seduce him to have intercourse (because they havent had much
affection ever since Nick started dating Lauren). He moves his hands around Nick, and finally
into his butt pockets, where he feels a ring and pulls it out. Chris is overjoyed;]
Chris: OH MY GOODNESS OH MY GOODNESS YOURE GONNA PROPOSE! IM
GETTING MARRIED! NO WONDER WHY YOU WERE SO M.I.A. You just wanted to make
it a surprise! Youre so romantic! (Chris flings himself on Nick again and tries to put on the ring.
Chris realizes that the ring is small and not a guy ring but a female engagement ring.
Confused, he looks at Nick.)

Nick: (grabs the ring, looks cold at Chris) Im leaving you. I fell in love with a woman. Im
proposing to her tonight. Im sorry it has to end this way.

Chris: (distraught, crying, confused) You un-loyal bastard! (pushes Nick and runs out of the
apartment)
[scene changes. Chris in a bar drinking and drinking without giving it any thought. Bottles of
empty beer bottles are right next to Chris.]

Chris: (drinking) I cant believe what just happened. Did I do anything wrong? Was I not good
enough? (chucks another beer bottle, puts his head up and drunkenly says) you know what No,
Im going to fight for my man! But where is he proposing to her? I know! His mom would
know! (stumbles out of his seat and leaves the scene)

(Chris goes to Nicks moms house and opens the door)

Chris: (drunkenly) WHERE IS NICK PROPOSING?? WHERE IS HE?!

Nicks mom: (frightened) I dont know! Leave me alone.

Chris: (knocks a bunch of stuff in the house and makes banging noises and destroys everything
that is in his way, demands) WHERE IS HE?!
Nicks mom: (huddles down a corner of the room scared) ok ok hes at Redondo beach
proposing Lauren! Just please leave me alone!

(Chris sees Nick about to propose to Lauren at the beach)

Nick: (goes on one knee) Lauren the moment I saw you, I knew you were the one. I know that I
lead a different life before I met you. Youve changed me in ways I never thought I would
change in. Lauren will you
Chris: (tackles Nick to the ground and still drunk and somewhat slurring) NICK.. BAE, WHAT
HAPPENED TO US?! I THOUGHT WE WERE SUPPOSE TO BE FOREVER! I THOUGHT
(Chris barfs)

Nick: (disgusted, pushes Chris off to the side. Puts his arm around Lauren) Chris, you were a
void thats all you were. Lauren is my soul mate. I dont want to ever see you again. (walks off
with Lauren while Chris is laying on his pool of vomit).
