UNIT 4. Resistivity Logs
Fresher mud
Fresh mud does not allow the current to penetrate into the
formation, thereby reducing effectiveness of the latero log
Conductive formation
In this case a major part of signal comes from the bore hole
mud. Thus, log responds more to the bore hole geometry rather
than the formation resistivity
Applications
+ Latero log can be_used in very conductive mud
it shows very good vertical resolution, thin beds can
esolved effectively on latero log.
@ _Latero log has a good depth of investigation and can used
everrin the case of deep invasion: =
¢ As the error in resistivity measurement decreases with the
resistivity of formation, the latero log is effectively used in
tive formations like (fresh water bearing
ormation, hydrocarbon zones, low porosity limestone,
fractured basement, traps and metamorphic rocks etc.)
case of resi
Micro Resistivity Logs
As the name suggests, these logs are used to measure resistivity
of asmall volume of formation, which wear to the wall of,
the bore hole, Generally the electrodes are mounted on the pad
hes the wall of the bore hole. There are two types of,
micro resistivity devices viz.,i) Unfocussed, ii) focussed. The two
very
which, to
types interestingly, serve two distinct purposes.
An unfocused micro log provides an idea about the permeability
and sand count
a formation._
‘A focussed micro log device measures Rxo directly
Bore Hole Environment Near the Bore Hole
Although the near the bore hole environment has been discussed
earlier but for the sake of continuity, it is being refreshed again.
