Name of Parish Consultation Method

Preferred Option

Holy Cross

2 PPC meetings; one open meeting.

Parish 1: Holy Cross and Our Lady and St. Helen's, with 2 priests to cover them Parish 2: St. Joseph's, St. Lucy's and Sacred Heart to
combine with either 1 Parish with 2 Priests or 2 Parishes with 1 priest in each to accommodate the current Mass attendance levels.
Parish 3: Holy Family & St. Matthew's, with 1 priest each

St Josephs

Open parish meeting

Option B - Parish 1: Sacred Heart/ St. Lucy's to combine at Sacred Heart, Parishes 2,3 and 4: St. Joseph's, Holy Cross and Our Lady/ St.
Helen to remain as currently configured. Parishes 5&6: one parish each for Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch: no view was offered about
which church in each of these 2 areas would continue in future

Sacred Heart

Preferred Option is B
leaflets handed out at masses, various It seems that we need to begin from an identifiable position in the future when we will only have one priest serving the whole of the
PPC meetings within own parish and
catholic community now served by St Joseph's, Saint Lucy's and Sacred Heart parishes along with the associated schools and nursing
deanery meetings
homes and work back to the present. We will have one priest and for all practical purposes it makes sense that we have one parish not necessarily one building

Our Lady and St

Helens

PPC meeting; open parish meeting.

Option B, with 6 parishes; 6 churches.Parish 1: Bishopbriggs: one parish, 1 church, with the location to be decided by that parish.
Parish 2: Kirkintilloch: one parish, one church- most likely Holy Family- and a chapel of ease at Twechar. Parish 3: Cumbernauld:
Sacred Heart merges with St. Lucy's, Parishes 4, 5 and 6: Holy Cross, Our Lady and St. Helen and St. Joseph's remain as at present.

St Lucy's

PPC meetings; sub-group established;

Parish open meeting held. Several
information opportunities and
briefings during and after mass.

Two sub- options under Option B, each based on 3 priests for Bishopbriggs/Kirkintilloch and 3 priests for Cumbernauld/Croy: No
knowledge base to form decision affecting Kirkintilloch or Bishopbriggs
Option B(i): Holy Cross- one priest
Our
Lady & St. Helen's/St. Joseph's - one priest between 2 churches
Sacred Heart/ St. Lucy's- one priest between 2 churches
Option B(ii): St. Helen's/ Holy Cross - one priest between 2 churches
St. Joseph's/Sacred Heart- one priest between 2 churches
St. Lucy'sone priest with other duties.

Other options were considered unsuitable for the geograpgical challenges

faced by the parish. Concerns raised over protecting the periphery of the
diocese. If neighbouring diocese close parishes, this could lead to a large areas
of no provision and the shrinking of diocese next to one another could lead to
fragmented or pocketed catholicism in Scotland. There was also the area of
human behaviour relating to instinct to travel outward in times of crisis.

St Flannan &
St John of the Cross

Joint PPC meeting

Establish 4 distinct areas as first step viz. Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch(+ or - Twechar), Croy/Condorrat and Cumbernauld. Then, decide
on which churches continue based on an appraisal of a range of factors.

Options A, D, E and F were not considered feasible; Option B considered good

but almost impossible to achieve, and Option C radical, but may have to be
considered in future.

St Dominics

PPC meeting

Options A and C- both of which would see one parish in Bishopbriggs and one in Kirkintilloch- were viewed as feasible.

St Matthews

PPC; Open parish meeting

Option C, based on 3 areas and 6 priests, but covering 4 parishes. There would be 1 parish for Bishopbriggs; one for Kirkintilloch; and
2 parishes for the broader Cumbernauld area. Two priests would have a peripatetic role.

Alternatives
Option A is ranked 2nd: none of the 4 other options was prioritised. However,
we can see benefits in having 4 Parishes linked to each of the secondary
schools as proposed by other Parishes in the Deanery one or more of these
Parishes may consist of more than 1 Church building / more than 1 Priest.

PPC minutes

Holy Family and

Ninian

St PPC meeting, plus a detailed briefing

by the Parish Priest x 2

option G with 5 parishes; one each in Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch, and 3 to

serve Cumbernauld, Condorrat and Croy; and option H with 4 parishes, with
one each in Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch, and two to cover Cumbernauld,
Condorrat and Croy.

None of the other options seemed attractive, with E and F viewed as totally
unrealistic.

Option C(i), with 4 parishes each with a parish priest, and 2 other priests shared between parishes. There would be one parish in
Bishopbriggs, ideally in a new-build seating 700, bringing to fruition the long-standing discussions with Morrison's and one parish in
Kirkintilloch, with a detailed appraisal undertaken to determine which of St. Flannan's or St. Ninian's is the better long-term prospect.
These 2 parishes would share the 3rd priest allocated to these localities. There would be one parish for Croy/ Condorrat, with a parish All other options are at best sub-optimal: options A, B, E and F were thought
priest: as 68% of those currently attending in these 2 churches attend Holy Cross- and with Fr. Sharkey's clarification that St. Helen's non-viable.
capacity is 360, not 550- Holy Cross is the more obvious choice. There would be one parish for the 3 other localities in Cumbernauld,
with a parish priest; both Sacred Heart and St. Joseph's have the capacity. This parish and the Croy/Condorrat parish would share the
3rd priest allocated to these localities.

Additional Comments

Additional information

For the longer-term, a move to 4 parishes in the

Deanery is flagged much as per the arrangements
described in the St. Matthew's and St. Ninian's
responses.

Occupancy statistics are inaccurate however the

archdiocese is aware of this error.
See appendix
1 and appendix 2.
Additional Paper attached to
questionnaire

Some churches in wrong place, population shifted

Clarity is needed on the St. Matthew's building project

to help determine a decision about future provision in
Bishopbriggs; an appraisal is needed in Kirkintilloch
between St. Ninian's and St. Flannan's; and the PPC felt
it did not know enough about the churches
in Cumbernauld to comment.
