Wich CM", Sosken KI @ Author information Abstract ‘The purpose of this stucy was to test a causal model of ethical confict in practies and autonomy in a sample of 254 nurse practitione's working in the primary care areas of farily health, pediatrics, adut health and obstetrics/ayneccloay inthe st: ‘of Maryland. A test of the model vas conduetod using 2 path analytic approach with LISREL 8.30 hypathesizingincvidual ‘organizational and sozietamarket factors influencing ethical confit in practice and autonomy. Maximum liketiiood ‘estimation was used to estimate the parameters most likely to have generated the data. Forty-five percent ofthe total ‘varance in ethical confct was explained by the variables of tical anvienmant and atrical concem. Ethical ecncem, idealistic philosophy. ethics education in continuing education, percentage of cent population enrolled in managed care, 31 ‘market penetration explained 15% ofthe total varance in autonomy. The findings of this study indeate thatthe causal mo. ‘of ethical confct in practice anc autonomy is consistent withthe cata and cortbuted to fuller understanding of elinical decision making associated with practicing in @ managed care environment. The final model suppcrted a conceptual ‘framework that is inclusive of thro demaine: individual, organczational and sccietalimerket vanables.
