Type sizes are used to differentiate different measures of printed type.

The devices commonly used are:


Line gauge
o It is used to calculate type sizes and line lengths in the inches.
o Line gauges is evaluated up to 72 picas.
o One side of the gauge is mention as inches, and the other side is mention as
picas.

E-gauge
o Printed type and point size are measured by E-gauge device.
o Point sizes E specify for each letter.
o The point size is measured by placed on the gauge flat over a line of type and
matching the letter E.
