Mission The National Kidney Foundation, a major voluntary nonprofit health organization, is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases and improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and families affected by kidney disease. About Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) 26 million Americans have been diagnosed and millions more face risk of diagnosis. High-risk groups include senior citizens, diabetics, African Americans, those with a family history of kidney failure, and those with high blood pressure. CKD causes the kidneys to lose function over time and may ultimately lead to kidney failure. If so, patients require dialysis or a transplant to stay alive. Early detection and treatment of CKD may prevent kidney failure. Select Programs and Events The Kidney Walk An annual family-friendly walk held in various locations. This years Pittsburgh walk aims to raise $223,500 for the foundation. Kidney Gift of Life Gala A prestigious fundraising gala held each spring to honor three notable people for their work within the region and dedication to NKFALL. NKF Golf Classic An annual golfing tournament at Valley Brook Country Club that raises money to fight kidney disease. The top five finishers may compete nationally. KEEP Healthy Assessments Periodic health screenings to prevent progression of CKD among at-risk individuals. KEEP stands for Kidney Early Evaluation Program. Detection measures include blood and urine tests.
