OPTIMISING THERAPY OUTCOMES

Session Plan
Session: Seminar Number 2 (f2f)
Topic: the Therapeutic Relationship
In preparation for this session you need to:
1. Essential: Read Vowles and Thompson's (2013) article.
2. Essential: Familiarise yourself with the content of the PPt presentation and the
9 activities within it.
3. Essential: Read the Case Study (slide 2) in depth and think about (reflect on)
which aspects are relevant to the Therapeutic Relationship and the therapy
outcomes. Alternatively select one case from your own practice and do the
same.
4. Essential: Do Activity 7 prior to the session.
5. Essential: Access the TAAP and print off one copy.
6. Optional: Identify relevant resources/articles which you wish to refer to during
the session.
7. Optional/as needed: ensure you are familiar with the terminology within the
presentation.
In the session you will do:
1 Reflecting on the/your case study and the 8 activities.
2 Discuss and debate the concepts and ideas presented during the session.
3 Identify and formulate action plan to develop your clinical effectiveness.
By the end of this session, you should be able to:
1. Evaluate relevant aspects of the TR and associated factors, and how they are
linked together.
2. Critically reflect on your capability to manage and enhance the therapy
relationship in order to enhance therapy outcomes.
3. Identify SMART action plan, which enables you to develop the required skills
further.
