1. Name, Position, School/District:

Casey Fries, Mathematics Teacher, Lincoln High School/Lincoln Public Schools
2. School Supervisor/Principal/Cooperating Leaders with whom you will work (please include title)
Title: Associate Principal
Name: Mark Larson
Years in Education: 8 years
Ethnicity: White
3. Leadership Learning Goal/s: (One or two statements only)
To better understand the role of a building leader.
4. Statement of Rationale of your learning goal/s:
I feel like I have a good understanding of the basic job duties associated with being a building
administrator, but I learned last semester that there are a lot of behind the scenes items that are also a
significant part of the job. I want to sit in on administration meetings to see what the agenda items are
like. I want to be a part of meetings with students and parents to help figure out how I can address
different situations. I want to visit Student Services so I can gain a better understanding of due process.
All of these items are items that Mark and I discussed last semester, and are places where we think I
could make a lot of growth. I think I have a good handle on the managerial type tasks, and that is why I
am going to focus more on the people/problem-solving portion of administration this semester.
5. How will you continue your learning about diversity?
I will continue to investigate and learn more about Special Education.
6. How will you continue to learn about leadership and curriculum?
I will continue to pilot and lead the data teams process with our department. (Curriculum)
I will continue to investigate the different roles of a building leader. This will include attending
administration team meetings, student service meetings, and other leadership opportunities. I will
continue to help with tardies, and assigning consequences to students when appropriate. I will visit two
other schools settings that are different than my own. (Leadership)
7. Reading Support
Book: The 360 Degree Leader: Developing your influence from anywhere in the organization.
By John Maxwell
I think this book will help to identify how I can be a building leader no matte what my role or title is. I
think it will help to identify so of the many roles that a building leader can have within an organization.
Articles: Something on developing others.
I feel like this is an area I need to improve on. Sometimes I struggle to have hard conversations with
people, and I would like to look more into how to successfully develop others.

8. School Visit Ideas

January 29th Schoo Middle School with Bill Schulenberg
Visiting a middle school will provide me with the opportunity to see how building leaders at this level
differ from high school. I do not have a lot experience with this age of student, so it will give me the
chance to see if this is an age group I could see myself working with.
February 14th Lincoln Southeast with Brent Toalson
Lincoln Southeast will provide me with the opportunity to visit a school with a different culture than my
own. I feel like this school has a strong leadership team, and it will give me the chance to see how they
work and interact first hand.
9. List of supporting & engaging activities include resource needs, timeline, EDL Outcome area, and
any other information that will be helpful. Include all practicum activities done in support of your
practicum learning goals. Each line should contain one activity that will be accomplished during that
same event and date. Plot this out throughout the semester now so that your Instructor has an idea of
how you plan to spend your practicum over the semester.
