Preliminary method statement

Sequence of operations for the construction of the reservoir

1. Strip of topsoil
2. Excavate down to required level
3. Batter back side slopes to a safe angle <45
4. Place mud mat
5. Prepare and place formwork of rough finish
6. Place reinforcement steel cage
7. Place concrete base with concrete skip
8. Wait 4 days and strip of formwork
9. Place formwork and reinforcement for walls
10. Place concrete using a concrete pump
11. Strip of formwork in 10 days
12. Back fill around reservoir except where pipe line has to be connected

Plant resources
Excavator to excavate pit
Dump truck to dispose of extra material

Temporary works design

Rough finish timber formwork for base and walls

Calculation for wall formwork to be construction

5m high

P1 = 125kn/m

Walls 400mm thick walls

P2 = 70kn/m

Slump = 75mm

P3 = 150kn/m

Temperature = 10 C
Rate of rise = 5m/h

Sequence of operations for the laying of 1km of pipeline

1. Start at low end and work towards reservoir
2. Excavate trench and insert trench box
3. Lay pipe in trench box section
4. Drag trench box along as the pipe is laid
5. Back fill the trench where the pipe has been laid
6. At river insert sheet piles to act as cantilevers 2m each side of the trench
7. Place pump in middle section to drain it dry
8. When drained excavate down to required level and lay pipe
9. Back fill to river bed level
10. When the pipe has been laid pass the river remove the sheet piles
11. Continue laying the pipe

Temporary works design

Trench box to act as temporary support for excavation
Sheet piles to act as a cofferdam
