As a consequence of a brutal attack, Leonard Shelby suffers anterograde

memory amnesia and this condition makes him forget everything after the
agression. He is unable to create new memories and in order to keep his
identity and remind himseld of his main purpose in life: vengeance he tattoes
himself with the facts that he consider important and constantly snaps reality
with his polaroid. But as the story unfolds, the spectator realizes that he is
actually distorting reality in order to forget the painful and disgusting facts and
creating his own truth, liying to himself to be happy, as we can see for
instance with the Sammy Jankins story.
