Marquez
I was lucky enough to be detailed to work with Corporal Marquez upon my first
assignment working in the maintenance management office for Combat Logistics
Regiment 17. During that time Corporal Marquez displayed outstanding work
ethic and leadership skills above and beyond that of a United States Marine
Non-Commissioned Officer. As a corporal, he had enormous responsibility in
helping to run the entire maintenance program for a very operations heavy
regiment, overseeing the maintenance and accountability of thousands of
pieces of equipment. On top of these tasks, he took it upon himself not to
serve as just a boss to the junior Marines around him, but acted as a
mentor, teacher, leader, and inspiration.
It was my wish that Corporal Marquez pursue a career within the Marine Corps.
I knew that with his talent and natural leadership he would have no problem
making it to the higher staff non-commissioned officer ranks. However,
Corporal Marquez wished to further challenge himself by applying his
aforementioned work ethic and leadership skills to a civilian career. There
is no dishonor or loss of respect for this choice in my opinion, because I
know Corporal Marquez will be just as outstanding in civilian life as he was
in the Marine Corps.
If you as the employer are reading this letter, I cannot express in enough
words the talent and work ethic that Corporal Marquez could bring to your
community. What he does not know, he will work hard to master and learn in
little to no time. He already has shown the ability to lead others, so I urge
you to put him into a position of leadership. He has already known high
levels of stress while deployed to Afghanistan, so any challenges that come
with a leadership position will present no problem. Whatever Corporal Marquez
chooses to do in the civilian world, I know that the community that accepts
him will be blessed to have an outstanding Marine on their team.
