Engineering in Sendai City, Japan

The University of Albany offers their students the

opportunity to take courses on engineering in the
beautiful Sendai City in Tokyo. Once applied
students are transported to Tohoku University in
Sendai City for either the spring semester, fall
semester, or a full academic year (available for
juniors). Students can take one of the two
programs, the International Program of Liberal
Arts (IPLA) or the Junior Year Program.

University of Albany or another SUNY
campus
At least a 3.0 GPA

Housing
Students are to stay Tohoku University
International House and University House Sanjo
for at
reasonable

Academic Information
Students in the IPLA program can obtain up to 13
credits for the one semester they are there.
Courses include economics, management,
education, law and literature, sociology, and
education. Students in the Junior Year Program,
however, can obtain more than 13 credits for the
each of the two semesters they there. Physical
Chemistry, molecular and cellular Biology,
computer software engineering, biotechnology,
and engineering are all courses available in this
program. Classes about Japans language and
culture are available for students in both
programs.

Besides the housing cost students, pay a onetime

application fee of $25.00 for those taking the
Junior Year Program while those taking IPLA pay
$12.50. Students are responsible for passport,
insurance, transportation, meals, and other
general costs. Tuition and other expenses are
higher for out-state residents. Students are
eligible to obtain a JASSO International Student
Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan that
provides an allowance of about $740.00 per
month for 6 or 12 months.
