Students will be expected to master music perfomance skills and music reading
skills required for concert and contest performances. The class will focus on basic
performance practices and music reading techniques. Students will be required to
participate in all individual, small group and large group performances both in the
classroom and in public concerts.
Music Folder
Students will be required to keep a pocket folder in the classroom. All music and
music handouts must be maintained in a neat and organized manner.
Grading Policy
DAILY WORK counts as 50% of the six weeks grade. Daily work consists of warmups, notation in music, theory handouts, individual class performances, and the
maintenance of the music folder. The students participation in the classroom
singing activities also counts as a daily grade.
TESTS count as 50% of the six weeks grade. Tests include sight reading
performance exams, music notation checks, voice part checks, concerts and districtmandated contest events.
Homework
Students who have not completed music notations in the classroom are required to
finish assignments at home. If students miss a concert performance or do not
participate in a contest performance, they will be required to complete a written
assignment to make up their missed performance.
Attendance
Students must be present to learn their music. Students will be held responsible for
any missed work, and all missed work must be made up within the amount of days
that they missed.
Tardies
Students must be in their assigned place on the risers, with their music folder
BEFORE the tardy bell rings. Tardies will be notated and the parent will be
notified of excessive tardies.
