Anja- Hello everyone, I'm Anja.
Natalie- I'm Natalie
Jordan- And I'm Jordan
Anja- Today we will be presenting our solution to the California Drouhgt
Natalie- The California drought is a really big problem. and will continue to be, unless we
change something
Jordan- According to saveourh20.org, supported by the California water agency, California's
water supply system was originally built to accomadate 18 million people, over the years, our
population increased to 38 million, as one could imagine, it can be challenging to supply this
many people with water even in, times of abundant rain.
Anja- This past year, 9 out of 11 regions in Califonia reached a record dry
Natalie- In 2013, California only received 14.2 inches of rain, which is very little. Our Average
rainfall for each year consists of about 22.2 inches.
Jordan- Our solution to this problem is desalination.
Anja- Desalination is the removal of salt and other minerals from regular salt water
Natalie- Most of California's population is near sea water anyway
Jordan- We have created a prototype and cad drawing to show our large scale plan
Anja- The main idea for our solution is to boil sea water and collect the steam, which can
condense in to pure drinkable water
Natalie- As you can see the steam has condensed in to this cup, this water is now safe to drink
and use for eveyrday needs.
Jordan- This drawing shows our plan on a large scale. The red rectangular prism represents or
heat source (212 f) which is the temp. recuired to boil water.
Anja-The blue pump on the left, is where seawater will be collected and then transferred to our
giant "pot."
Natalie- From there, the water will boil and the steam will be directed in to our collection
cylinder from the piping system.
Jordan- The steam will then be cooled and condensed by the seawater that surronds the cylinder.

Anja- This sea water is being circulated and cooled by the pump system on the right.
Natalie- The pure drinkable water would then be filtered and distributed to the people of
California.
