Production Log Editing

In the fifth week, we concentrated on the editing. We learnt many different techniques that
had been used to edit films so that it engages the audience. During this week, we learnt two
types of editing; continuity editing and non-continuity editing.
Continuity editing is when the scenes flow in a consistent and smooth manner. It cuts
different scenes however, it is not visible to the audience as this happens very smoothly.
Examples of continuity editing is match on action, master shot, cross-cutting, shot-reverse
shot and many more.
Non-continuity editing is when shots are mismatched to disrupt the time and space. This
confuses and distracts the audience reality on the screen. Non-continuity editing shows the
audience the time frame/ lapse of the scene. Examples of non-continuity editing is
flashbacks, jump cuts, montages and many more.
During this week, we also learnt about the different transactions that take place in editing
such as fade in/out, dissolve and many more. As I didnt have much skills of how to edit, I
download a 30 day trial of IMovie and tried to learn the basics of editing. This has now
improved my editing skills.
