The Four Creatures

A Petrarchan Sonnet Inspired by Art III

The floating creature licked the orange balloon.
The tall creature grimaced yet he did stay
and the many-eyed creature looked away.
The purple creature waited for his moment opportune
for the floating creature would be within reach soon.
It's eye continued to eye its prey.
Then three yellow tentacles fell astray.
The floating creature was swallowed whole by the purple creature, whose mouth
stretched peculiarly like a cartoon.
Why would these creatures all stay in one place?
Why was the floating creature careless, allowing the purple creature to bring him to his
end?
What is up with the many-eyed one's sewn-up face?
What did the painter of this painting intend?
Does this story happen in the past, the present, the future, on Earth, or out in space?
It doesn't matter. It's just pretend.
