How I chose my topic

For National History Days Leadership and Legacy theme, I chose Adolf Hitler. I chose
my topic because Adolf Hitler had a very strong impact on the world, not just the Jewish
community. I sought to create a project on someone who actually impacted people in a important
way, not just someone who became famous for doing questionable things on a television show. I
wanted to focus on not just the Holocaust as his legacy, but also his leadership in the Third
Reich, along with the major highlights of his life leading up to his reign as Chancellor and
Fuhrer. Had Adolf Hitler won World War II, the world would be a very different place today.

How I conducted my research

I conducted most of my research by going to the Dauphin County Library System in
Colonial Park and checking all the books out on Adolf Hitlers reign, his treatment of the Jews,
his leadership in the German Workers Party, and even just biographies about him. I also
searched for newspapers and magazines that could have featured Hitler in an article or at least
had pictures. I could not find anything in that category. However, I found many sources that I
could and did use on the internet. This is where all the pictures found on my site come from.

How I selected my presentation category and created my project

I selected the website category for my project to ensure that I could display the
information that I wanted to get across in a way that was not limited. I have done many trifold
boards in the past, and with only a five hundred word count, it was difficult to explain everything
in detail. In order to create my website, I used the NHD Weebly creator because it is easiest to
use. Using the notecards I wrote information on, I typed up the website itself, and added pictures.

How my project relates to the theme

My topic about Adolf Hitler fits the theme of 2015, Leadership and Legacy, because
Hitlers leadership of the Third Reich was outstandingly successful and his legacy will live on,
for better or worse. Hitler introduced Germany to a dictator-like rule after a democracy which
was a huge step backwards, it seemed. His dictatorship will not be unforgotten: the Jews that he
tortured and their families, anyone who was not the perfect race, and people caught in the
crossfires of war. In addition, there were Nazis fighting police in the streets daily, public
executions, and even petty theft under the rule of Adolf Hitler. the 1930s and 40s were full of
terror and mayhem in Germany.
