REGULAR (short acting):

CAN BE GIVEN IV.

Onset: 30 min

Peak: 2-4 hrs.

Duration (stays in the body): 6-8 hrs.

NPH (intermediate acting): * Novolin N, Humalin N **Cloudy (time release)

Onset: 1 1/2 hr.

Peak: 4-12 hrs.

Duration (stays in the body): 16-24 hrs.

LONG ACTING: * Gargan (LANTUS)

Onset: 2-4 hrs.

Peak: NONE - good b/c it does not damage vessel, provides a steady
control of insulin.

Duration (stays in the body): 24 hrs.
