INFORMATIONAL REPORT ON A NARVRE PLANNING MEETING

Fresno, CA NARVRE unit 60 held its annual first of the year planning meeting

A Circle the Wagons communication for protection of failure, sharing ideas of interest, helping
one another, planning and working together for the betterment of NARVRE
Fresno, CA NARVRE unit 60 held its annual first of the year planning meeting at 9:00 AM
January 8, 2015. President Don Heffernan opened the meeting with requests for activities and
speakers to fill each of the coming months. With 20 members present suggestions were
plentiful and breakfast was soooo good.

Of the many requests for activities and programs suggested, two were made for our
membership and Legislative committees.
Since the changes in our U.S. Congress and Senate, this year will most likely be a challenge
for membership and legislative activity for NARVRE and membership involvement and we
must be prepared and involved and our Fresno unit is preparing.
Looking at our challenge for membership and legislative involvement in just 5 congressional

3,947

districts in our Central San Joaquin Valley alone we have a total of

railroad
annuitants. Out of this number we have (a very few) NARVRE members and a huge potential
for new members.
We have plans for a much more aggressive membership committee orchestrated by our Area
Eight Membership Chairman Gary Watkins.
Out of this 3,947 number of railroad annuitants this represents a huge number of voters and
tax payers. Heading up our legislative efforts is our Area Eight Legislative Chairman, Derek
Ruell who is making plans for our legislative committee to meet with our congressmen and or
congressional office staff to get the word out making them aware that we do not want them
messing with Social Security and our Railroad Retirement.
THE BEST PART OF AN ANNUAL FIRST OF THE YEAR PLANNING MEETING IS TO GET OUR
UNIT DUCKS IN LINE FOR EVENTFULL, worthwhile AND INTERESTING UNIT MEETINGS.

(a want to attend)

WE MUST MAKE OUR UNIT MEETINGS

FOR OUR MEMBERS
AND AT THE SAME TIME MAKE AN AGGRESSIVE EFFORT FOR MEMBERSHIP AND
LEGISLATIVE INVOLVEMENT.
