FELLOWS. cena History On July 18, 1896 the Fellows Gear Shaper Company was organized in Springtel, Vermont to produce Edwin R. Fellows’ revolutionary gear generaling machine This machine reduced the chances of error in gear pproduction and made it feasible to mass produce gears with teeth having involute curves. Within a year the company went on to introduce its second product, a unique new cutter cinder. With this machine the involute profiles of the large 48.inch helical gear shaper was instrumental in the success of turbine-driven Eagle boats used as submarine destroyers, When the steady expansion of the 1920's gave way to the depression of the 1930's, Fellows’ world wide repulation kept the plant busy. Soviet Union purchases alone amounted fo approximately 20% of production in 1931 During the second world war Fellows Gear Shaper developed land manufactured nine new kinds of machines. For its autsianding Contribution to the war effort, Fellows was awarded the Army-Navy Production award in every year of the war. In September 1947, at the National Machine Tool Show in Chicago, Felows unvaiad a mammoth new gear shaper weighing ‘ver 65,000 pounds. With the 1960's came diversification, and Fellows began to import and distribute a number of European produced products while building a new 372,000 square Toot ‘manufacturing faciliy in Springfield, Vermont. Construction was Sina saciid pps Edwin A. Fellows ‘completed in Sepiember of 1969. This enabled the evelopment of quieter, more compact transmissions using cluster gears, intemal gears and other recessed members, In 1008 Follows ‘originated the stub tooth gear concepi. Its shorter tooth and increased pressure angle were quickly adopted for auiomotve transmissions. Shorly thereatter the advan: tages of helical gears were recognized for particuler automotive applications, and in 1910 Fellons introduced a helical gear shaper. During the frst world war a naw, generate crown, taper and helical fing gears, Taking full advantage of the CNC boom, Fellows introduced the CNC Hydrostroke® Gear Shaper in 1984, This patented hydro ‘mechanical design makes possible true process optirization through innovative force management techniques. its sx CNC ‘axes and adaptive control offer unsurpassed accuracies, vereallly and total productivity that even Edwin R, Fellows ‘could never have imagined, - Today the Fellows Corporation is a member of the 5 Vermont-USA Machine Tool Group, a consortium of well known, precision machine ool manuiacturers including Jones & Lamson, Bryant Grinder Corporation and J & L Metrology. Located in the "Precision Valley” of Springtiold, Vermont, their synergies support & powerful commitment to machine'tools and related products with unsurpassed quality and service for the global manufacturing market Early beltciven goer shaper as produced oiea 1910 COngiel Fetows Company plant, crea 1896. FFefows plant afer expansions inthe earty 1920's Hydrostroke® CNC Gear Shapers Performance Fellows’ patented Hydrostroke principle brings unsurpassed performance to the gear generation process. It isthe ideal ‘complement for today's powerful CNC capabillies. Hydrastroke machines generally achieve substantial production increases. ‘over other gear shapers in thelr size range, Projected productivity can limb by as much as 100%, with tool life extended by as much as 250%, ‘At the heart of each Hydrostroke machine is a unique system that delivers a controlled maximum cutting force concentrically about the spindle, This eliminates side loads to the cutter which ‘extends tool life and increases part qualiy. In addition, the quick return stroke automatically increases in speed over the cutting portion, As a result, higher stroking speeds are possible with lower cutting velocities. Tools last longer at both conventional and high velocity cutting rates. Variable infeed and variable rotary feed rates maximize the Hydrostroke system benelite. Both feads are automaticaly adjusted to maintain the optimum programmed cutting force at the start of the cycle when chips are light, for final cuts at full depth, and for all cuts in between. The end result is more (900d parts af the end of each day. rege a “eke TH. Sar ea See Stroking Speed-—Tho svotivg spa is rogarmatie win tne speed range of fe mache.
