Philosophy of Education

In my classroom I want each and every student to be well on their way to developing into
the best person they can be, the person the Lord has created them to be in the many spectrums of
their characteristics. I believe this can be reached with a combination of educational philosophies,
the first being Existentialism. Within this philosophy I would like to place emphasis on promoting
individual learning; teaching the whole child because in order for children to grow, this must be
done in all aspects of their life. I would also like to focus on individuality, and freedom to make
choices; personal responsibility because each student should find self worth within themselves and
understand that there are consequences, positive or negative, for their actions. I would also place
an emphasis on peer problem solving, knowledge leading to self-discovery, and alternative choices
requiring decision-making.
Along with Existentialism I would also like to use other aspects from other philosophies
such as, Social Reconstructionism, looking to education to change society, rather than just teach
about it. I would teach my class about the worlds culture and how culture changes over time and is
a direct result of actions, inventions and decisions. I also like some ideas of Romanticism, or
naturalism; the idea that individual interests should be validated with opportunities o explore and
manipulate elements of their environment.
I believe this will help individuals develop their interests, gifts and their well being. I think
it is important to maintain a balance of philosophies, and to structure them based on keeping the
soul of each student in mind. It is important to me, whether I be in a private or public school to do
what it is best for my students.
Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.
