High Voltage Test of 8D-GIS

with Power VT
Inductive voltage transformers (VT) are usually used in
high voltage substations to provide measuring signals
forcontrol, protection and metering systems.
With an improved design of the windings the VT becomes
a Power VT which then allows for a High Voltage test of
the primary system without special high voltage test
equipment.

GIS

Comprehensive testing capability

Easy re-test over the whole life cycle

after test the GIS can be put into operation without

mechanical work on the primary circuit, i.e. normally
thehigh voltage test set must be removed

test-preparation within minutes e.g. after S/S-extension,

re-assembling or extensive service activities

easy support by neutral testing

companies (e.g. OMICRON) or testing institutes
Easy handling
with a Power VT the high voltage test becomes like
testing a protection relay
light weight units allow handling at site without
liftingfacilities or cranes

low investment in site based testing facilities

possibility for investigation into sporadic effects at
PD-test voltage levels
Space saving
Power VTs are of the same dimension as standard VTs
no extra space needed for temporary installation of
huge high voltage testing facilities

power supply via a standard socket outlet

(e.g. 3-phase, 400 V, 20 A)

Environmental friendly

Easy transport

reduced transport and packages requirements

no SF6-gas handling at site needed for test preparation

test facilities available with transport cases allowing

transport as carry-on luggage during travelling to site
orthe use of standard parcel services
