Definition
Angiocholitis indicates an inflammation of the bile ducts and the bile. It is generally due to an
infection of the bile by bacteria from the digestive tract following a major obstruction of the bile
ducts caused by a stone. It is suspected in the presence of a high fever and shivers and severe
pain in the abdomen. After 1 or 2 days of progression, the skin turns a yellowish color and the
urine is dark. If angiocholitis is suspected, an ultrasound may be performed. The risks of
angiocholitis range from blood poisoning to coma. If the diagnosis is confirmed, surgical
intervention must be planned.
