Lone Star Poem Analysis
The speaker in the poem, Lone Star-author unknown- demonstrates the emotions of
heartbreak and loneliness from the human experience. In this poem, the speaker is trying to get
over his love that is taking him over. Since their lover has left them behind, the speaker is filled
with sadness as every thought reminds them of the other: There is no escape, not a place to
hide/ for you were my home, my life (Unknown 19-20). This love has consumed the speaker,
and it is hard for the speaker to get back on their feet. They are trying to move on, but are still
secretly clinging to the memories, for it is all they have: At the sound of your name, / my heart
pounds in vain./ I try to forget you,/ Truly, always, I do (7-10). The tone of the speaker conveys
that they are desperate to forget the other, but the love is too strong. Because of this heartbreak,
the speaker is like a lone star up there at night (25). They are left alone, and the dream of a
happy ever after has crashed into reality. This poem conveys the fact that heartbreak or losing a
person that was once close can be painful. It can tear one apart internally, and they end up being
conflicted on what to do next when all they have is a burning love that isnt going away. The
thought of moving on is unbearable and can leave one broken down for a while.
