Welcome to sixth grade Science! I look forward to a great school year filled with exciting learning
opportunities. This letter is to provide both the student and parent with some general information about how
to succeed in this social studies course.

Grading Policy:
Throughout the school year, students will receive grades based on formative and summative assessments.
Formative assessments include daily class work and homework which allows for practice of new skills and
concepts, and timely feedback from the teacher. Summative grades include tests, projects, writing
assignments, labs, notebook checks and presentations.
Formative assessments are worth 10%
Summative assessments are worth 90%
Materials Needed for Class:
2 Spiral notebooks
1 folder or binder with pockets
Notebook paper
Pencils/pens
School Behavior Expectations:
Successful- Follow school rules and procedures. Be prepared.
Optimistic- Believe in yourself and your abilities. Think positively.
Accountable- Take ownership of your actions. Be responsible.
Respectful- Respect yourself, peers, and staff. Tolerate differences.
