Plant Growth
Project

Procedure: For the following project, we were asked to grow 3 mung beans in
Styrofoam cups that would contain the soil and beans with holes at the bottom for
water. For the next several weeks (approximately 2), we were to record the plants
growth every day, with the exception of the weekends. We didnt need to manually
grow the plants ourselves, as they were supplied with water and the sunlight by an
assistant.

Results: Over the period of 2 weeks, I recorded the growth of my fastest and tallestgrowing plant nearly every day. However, there were about 1 or 2 days in which I
did NOT record the data. But, despite some missing data, I still managed to observe
my plants growth and saw that given several days to grow, its length reached a total
of 190 mm (9/18/14). In the end, I believed that my plant truly developed, given the
time it had to grow.

Points: (4,0) ; (14,190)

M= 190-0/14-4=190/10
M=19
--------------------------------------------------Equation: y-y=m (x-x)
y- 0= 19(x-4)
y=19x-76
--------------------------------------------------Height at Day 30
Substitute x for 30
Y=19(30)-76
Y=570-76
Y=494 mm
By Day 30 or over, I predict that the plant will reach 780 millimeters, that is, if it grows at a
constant rate.
Conclusion: After this lab, I conclude that depending on the variables and if they change, that the
plant may or may not reach the 494 millimeters by day 30 as I had initially predicted. After all,
494 millimeters seems to be a fairly high width and my plant just started to grow after the 4th day. I
am fairly uncertain on whether or not the plant will be able to accomplish my prediction by the 30th
day. The measures on the data seem too small to possibly show that the plant will grow to 494 mm.
by the end of the month/ the 30th day.
