Reading & Discussion (Assign one student to read a paragraph then discuss)
Yuko san was working late one Friday evening thinking she was the last one in the office. However, as she
passed by the copy room to pick up something she had printed, she noticed her male coworker, John Hastings,
placing two packs of printing paper and various other office supplies in his bag.
Though Yuko was shocked at seeing that, she tried to stay out of sight so he didnt realize she was there as
he left the copy room and went home. Yuko thought to herself that she should report the incident to their boss
but she decided not to.
Did she do the right thing? (What do you think?)
Teacher Question: (replace Student A / Student B with a student in your class by referring to name)
Student A, if you saw your Student B steal office supplies, would you tell your boss/manager?
Student A, if you knew Student B was using company money for personal reasons, what would you do?
POINTS TO PONDER!
1. If you were in a department store and saw a 13 year old girl shoplifting a handkerchief, what would
you do?
2. If you saw your best friends girlfriend or boyfriend on a date with another person, would you tell
your best friend?

So, Jimmy, said his father, as they stood in line at the local grocery store. What did you learn in school
today? To tell you the truth, answered young Jimmy, Im not exactly sure dad. My teacher was
talking and talking about something called ethics, and I still dont know what she was talking
about! Jimmy replied. Ah, ethics responded his dad, very important indeed!. Well, imagine the
cashier gives me back too much change, ethics would be whether I keep the change for myself, or if I
give it back to your mom!
