COPYRIGHT, FAIR USE, AND

PUBLIC DOMAIN
What is Copyright, Fair Use,
and Public Domain?
Fellow classmates, I have decided to create this
flyer in order to inform you about three very
important things called copyright, fair use, and
public domain. Copyright is the means by which
people protect their ideas from being stolen.
This term also ties in with the other two terms I
am going to tell you about in this flyer. Fair Use
is the policy that allows people to use
copyrighted material for things such as satire,
education, etc. This does not mean that you can
copy everything word for word from the
original without worrying about being accused
of plagiarism. The third and final term I will talk
about is Public Domain. Anything that loses its
copyrighted status ends up in the Public
Domain, or a pool of ideas and things that
anyone can use because it is no longer
copyrighted.
