In the morning Fernando and I did research for our case study (on
social anthropology), one of the aspects of the study features
media. This is why we went to a very well known Bollywood music producer here in India, Daniel B. George at Skull Studios. We were able to interview him to discuss the differences between Indias music industry and in America. One of the first things that we determined was that Indias music industry is divided into 3 categories (background score in film, individual artists and playback artists). Since Bollywood movies are becoming more widely accepted across the globe their film score are huge hits! A majority of the top hits here in India are mostly Bollywood songs with occasional hits sung by individual artists. The third category of music here is India, playbacks, are traditionally sung by indie artists re-singing their own versions of the hit Bollywood songs. Some of the well-known and prestigious schools here in India for film include FDI (film training institute) and NSD (National School of Drama), and the Mumbai film academy. When we asked the producer how he got his start in the music industry he told us that he is a pianist and he was a friend with a well-known music producer who introduced him to producing Bollywood Scores. For the remainder of the day we went to Starbucks to have another meeting with Shekhar and to continue our research.
