NHD Portfolio Assignment

NHD, National History Day, is a nationwide contest that helps students learn more about
the worlds history. Students create a project about an individual or group with a chosen medium,
such as websites, exhibits, documentaries, and more. Every year, NHD has a new theme, and this
years theme is leadership and legacy.
For NHD, I have chosen Malala Yousafzai as the individual Ill be reporting on. As my
project medium, Im creating a website. Since I am in my schools digital media program, and
Im relatively tech savvy, I figured a website would be the best option for me. I chose Malala as
my topic, as shes in my age group, and shes very influential.
NHD Thesis
Malala Yousafzai is a young, modern civil rights activist who has stood up against
terrorism and promoted global education through her speeches and blog. With said speeches, she
has caused the United Nations to recommit to Millennium Development Goal 2 in order to
provide greater global education. Despite numerous death threats, Malala has continued to
deliver inspirational speeches. To make her even cooler, she won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.
