Should Writing and Rhetoric be a required course?

Writing and Rhetoric should be a required course at Notre Dame because, to excel in
any line of work, a person must have a foundation in writing. For example, professionals in the
sciences are required to write papers on their research in order to get them published in
scientific journals. The written documentation of experiments and the results of these
experiments helps to excel the sciences by allowing others the opportunity to recreate and test
the original experiment. These works musts be well organized, concise, and informative. The
Writing and Rhetoric course is designed to help improve students writing abilities in these
areas.
