These days, one hears so many names that their ears fall deaf to hear the names of
inspirational leaders such as Nelson Mandela. I chose to write about this topic in order to gain
more knowledge about Mandelas actions and find out why such a vast number of people
globally respected and cherished this South African leader.
I conducted my research by going to the Downtown Riverside Library and checking out
books related to Nelson Mandela and the apartheid. This helped me acquire the basic knowledge
of Africa during the apartheid and about Mandelas journey. Then, I browsed the internet to look
for resourceful articles and websites that would help me identify Mandelas legacy and effect on
the global community. Moreover, I browsed articles featuring photos that outlined Mandelas
life. This pictures and captions gave me details concerning the segregation of South Africa
during the apartheid and helped me envision the key moments of Mandelas story. Finally, I
watched videos about Nelson Mandela.
I selected the website category because I like working with computers and the web. I was
interested in the process of creating a website from scratch. Moreover, making a website enabled
me to use non-textual materials such as media and pictures. I wouldnt be able to incorporate
these materials as freely on other presentation categories such as exhibit or paper. I created my
project by first putting together an outline for my website. This included naming the pages and
setting organization standards for each aspect of my website. Then, I gathered information on
each page of my website and began filling out the basic structure. I continued doing this until I
finished my website.
Nelson Mandelas unbreakable spirit and hope drove him and his supporters to
achieve racial equality in South Africa. He also helped establish democracy in South Africa,

putting the horrid apartheid to its grave. Mandela carried the hopes of all the South Africans
living in poverty and racial oppression. He led the youths, the elders, and the whole community
of colored peoples to finally grasp onto freedom. No longer would they have to live in cruel
segregation and in humiliation. Mandela inspires many people to this day to never give despite
all odds and to put aside racial differences.
