Pop Culture Modern Day Impact Assignment

Boston Marathon Bombing

On Boylston street in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, several explosions went off near
the finish line killing three people and injuring and seriously hurting hundreds of others. The
event occurred on Patriots day, April 15, 2013, and the bombs exploded at 2:49 p.m eastern
time. There were two brothers involved in the bombings, Dzhokhar and Tamerlane Tsarnaev. The
suspects also murdered an MIT police officer, hijacked an SUV and had a massive shootout with
the Watertown Police Department in Massachusetts. During the shootout, Tamerlane Tsarnaev
was fatally injured along with an MBTA police officer.

The bombings have had a major impact on society. An innocent college student was
found dead because he was falsely believed to be involved in the bombings over social media. It
could impact United States Refugee Policy in the Immigration Bill. It was the largest manhunt
in the country this year, and was a successful collaborative police and FBI effort to apprehend
the suspects. It really makes it evident that terrorism can occur at any place at anytime, and it is a
scary thought to think about.
