Prompt 1: For a movie to pass the Bechdel Text there are three different requirements.
The first requirement is that the movie must have at least two women in it. Secondly, the
women in the movie must converse with one another in back and forth dialogue. And the
third requirement is that the conversation must be about something other than a man.
Patriarchy is a social system in which power and privilege are more readily available to
heterosexual (or perceived heterosexual) men than women. It is a part of everything we
do.
Patriarchy influences the results of how many movies pass the Bechdel test. Only
about half of movies pass the test. The Bechdel test shows how men have more power
because they are more represented in the film industry. For a male, having the power to
watch a movie and see a character that is the same gender is a part of the privilege that
men hold. A lot of times when women exist in films, it is all about the males plotline.
Women sometimes only exist in films to be in a mans world.

Prompt 3: Patriarchy is a social system in which power and privilege are more readily
available to heterosexual (or perceived heterosexual) men than women. It is a part of

everything we do. Rape is the unlawful compelling of a person through physical force or
duress to have sexual intercourse.
It is often see as an act of control. Our society views rape as illegal, but still
understandable thing, which contributes to the power system. Men are supposed to be
aggressive because its part of their nature; women are expected to be passive. Men are
not able to control their sexual urges. This notion helps excuse the action and shows the
privilege that men hold in our society. Men believe they have the power to rape, and
secretly, all females want to be raped.
