11th Youth Interfaith

Pilgrimage 2014
As I went through the brochure of the 11th Youth
Interfaith Pilgrimage 2014 in South India, I
immediately thought that I must join this
workshop no matter what. We are living in a
multi-racial and multi-religious country like India.
I believe that we must know how to regard other
religions, how to accommodate them and what
place we are going to give them in our religion.
So for that we need to know and understand
about other religions and cultures. We must
understand the various ways in which the
different co-religionist regard each other and how
some religious groups are indifferent to the
teachings and the practices of other religions.
I found the Youth Interfaith Pilgrimage will
serve all the purpose of understanding other
religions and cultures. I want to share the
different religious groups on how Buddhism has
positively affected my attitude towards life and
how it inspired me during my hard times.
Through Buddhism, I can contribute to the world.
Buddhist belong to the religious groups that
accepts and appreciates the other mans views
and appreciate other practices without
harbouring any religious prejudices. Those who

are unable to appreciate the ways of other

religious practices would maintain their silence
and refrain from any criticism. This attitude is
very important for peaceful co-existence.
As His Holiness the Dalai Lama has
mentioned in his book, Beyond Religion: It is a
matter of great urgency, therefore, that we find
ways to cooperate with one another in a spirit of
mutual acceptance and respect.
For many people its a joy to live in a
cosmopolitan environment where they can
experience wide variety of cultures, there is no
doubt that, for others, living nearby those who do
not share their language or culture can pose
difficulties. It can create confusion, fear, and
resentment creating social tension. Therefore,
mutual understanding between the diverse
religions and cultures are the foundation of
universal peace. So the interaction among the
other members of this workshop can create
awareness and share new ideas and views. By
taking this opportunity, I will learn new customs
and will understand the teachings of other
religions. In exchange, I can contribute towards
the society by sharing the rich culture of Tibet
and Buddhism. I hope I will get this golden
opportunity to explore different religions and
introspect towards our own religion.
