The hot gas stream enters the top of desulfurizer and passes downward through the

bed of zinc oxide catalyst. The composition of the feed stream to the reactor is as
under:
Hydrogen sulfide

lb/ft3

Carbondioxide

lb/ft3

at a temperature and pressure of oF Psig respectively.

Passing through the zinc oxide catalyst, the hydrogen sulfide produced in the
preceding hydrotreating step is absorbed as zinc sulfide.
The capacity of the zinc oxide bed is such that (assuming normal operation), a total
life expectancy of up to one year can be expected.
The desulfurizer has length of ft and diameter ft contains a single bed of pallets of
zinc oxide catalyst of volume ft3 .
The zinc oxide disintegrates if it is wetted and is sensitive to rapid changes in
temperature, Because of the later sensitivity during the warm up operation the
temperature differential between ant two points within the bed should not be
allowed to exceed 212 oF or damage to the catalyst may occur
