Exercises for Section 2.2

2. If a, b

Problem: Let X=(xn) be a sequence of positive real numbers such

that lim(x1/nn)=L<1.
Show
that
there
exists
a
number r with 0<r<1 such
that 0<xn<rn for
all
sufficiently
large nIN.
Proof:
Since lim(x1/nn)=L<1, for every >0 there exists K() such that if nK, then:

|x1/nnL|<<x1/nnL<+L<x1/nn<+L.
Put =1L2>0 to get K such that if nK, then: x1/nn<+L=1+L2.
But, L<1 implies r=L+12<1 and thus we have x1/nn<rxn<rn for nK.
Finally, limn(rn)=0 implies that limn(xn)=0.
