February 27, 2015 Review Committee Pine Lake Preparatory 104 Yellow Wood Circle Mooresville, NC 28115 Dear Review Committee, My name is Morgan Morefield and I have attended Pine Lake Preparatory since its opening in 2008. For the past four years, I have played on the Varsity Volleyball team at Pine Lake Prep and this year I am captain of the team, I am very involved in the ministries of St. Marks Lutheran, Chureh, I sing in the youth choir, play the handbells in the youth and adult groups, I play the flute in the instrumental ensemble, and I am also a member of the senior high youth group. I participate in the National Honors Society, National Spanish Honors Society, Mathematics Honors Society, BETA Club, and Science Olympiad at Pine Lake Preparatory. Throughout high school, I have discovered that my favorite subjects are math and science. With the guidance of the Academic Partners in those subjects, I have come to the conclusion that I want to study to become an engineer. For the Pride Paper, I wrote about chemical. civil, and nuclear engineering; however, for the product, I am focusing on civil engineering. My goal for the Pride Project is to earn more about the different fields of engineering and decide which one I want to study in college. My mentor is Allison Kraft, she is a civil engineer for the Town of Mooresville. For my Pride Project Product, I will create a site plan for a new development. In this plan, I will include the locations and requirements of the utilities (water and sewage lines), the stormwater runoff and pond, driveways, and the building locations. The materials I will need to complete my product are my ThinkPad laptop, the AutoDesk Software, and a printer to print out my plans. My product will take me approximately 16 hours to draw, design, and perfect. I will have my product completed by February 27, 2015 before I present my project to the panel of judges. I will present my plans by printing out a copy for each judge to reference and look at. I will highlight the important parts of the design so the judges will have an easier time reviewing my product. Also in my presentation, I will discuss the process of getting site plans approved for projects and the ifferent steps that site plans have to go through before being approved. ‘The Pride Project has taught me a lot about myself and who I want to be as a person. I learned that ifI set mini-deadlines for myself, will be less overwhelmed and have the best end product. Through the process of this project, I discovered that I do want to be an engineer when I grow up. Additionally, this project taught me that if I set my mind to something and work hard enough at it, I will be successful. I will apply this knowledge to everything I do in life. Thank you for your time, Morgan Morefield
