Exhibit 1.Top 10 most populous states and territories, year 2010
Exhibit 2. Statistics on Population by race
Exhibit 3. Statistics on Population by race
From the Exhibits 2and 3 above, one can see the difference between raw unnormalized data and a normalized one (changed to percentage). In Exhibit 2 above, California has the highest population of whites if one just looks at the data without changing it to percentages while North Carolina has the lowest population. When this data becomes normalized, one can see a different result as seen in exhibit 3.Here Ohio has the highest population of Whites and The highest population of Blacks is seen in Georgia, while the lowest population is seen in California. The highest population of Asians are seen in California, while the lowest population is in Ohio. The Hawaiian race has the lowest population overall.
Reflection on building this report
To build this report, I went through the tutorial which made it busy to make the map. I sorted the data from the attribute table descending to get the top ten states with the highest population. I learned how to insert data from a layer Attribute table to excel spread sheet. I also learned how to use excel to calculate percentages of the data I got from the layer attribute table. Changing the data to percentage made it easier to analyze the data.
