Biotechnology course in India

Courses in Biotechnology are programs that involve study of

technology blended with biological sciences that leads to


research and development.
The professionals in this field strive to find solutions for human
kind in the fields of genomics, genetics, and proteomics,
structural & functional genomics.
The application of Biotechnology is huge and vast that ranges
from pharmaceuticals, agriculture, textiles to beverages and
food processing. Some new fields that are slowly coming up
are forensics, animal husbandry and nutrition.


How to pursue a career in Biotechnology?

One can pursue a career in Biotechnology by simply getting a formal


training in the course of Biotechnology. One can pursue a B.Sc or a B.
Tech through any Biotechnology colleges in India that are recognized by
the UGC. There are courses available in advanced Biotechnology &
Genomics as Post graduation or MSc in Biotechnology. Duration for
both B. Sc and B. Tech degrees are different.
Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria for a BSc are to pass 10+2 with 50% score in
Biology, Chemistry, and Physics & Math. Some institutes may prefer
Biology students over Maths, while some institutes prefer PCM as the
subjects of choice. For a BSc degree one can obtain admission on the
basis of their higher secondary score but to obtain admission in a B.Tech
in Biotechnology course, one has to appear for entrance exams like IIT
JEE

Academic Curriculum
To be a B.Tech in Biotechnology, one has to pass eight

semester exams including practical. The curriculum covers


a wide range of subjects as engineering, mathematics in
some cases advance mathematics, molecular biology,
genetics, biochemistry, Plant & animal biotechnology,
immunology, bioinformatics and so on.
One can be a specialist in various subfields like Production,
development, Quality Control, Quality assurance, Molecular
Modelling, Microbiology, forensics. Some more courses for
specialization in MSc Biotechnology are botany,
horticulture, nutrition and many more.


With the increase in scope of the Biotechnology in India,
