    This study observed 1-year pregnancy rates of 542 women who used emergency contraception (EC) with either a copper IUD or oral levonorgestrel. The study found that the pregnancy rate was lower for those using a copper IUD (6.5%) compared to oral levonorgestrel (12.2%). The conclusion was that the 1-year pregnancy rate was about half as high for IUD users compared to oral levonorgestrel users. Based on these results, the study implies that greater use of copper IUDs could be recommended for emergency contraception to further reduce unintended pregnancy rates.
