International Nuclear Safeguards

Policy
One-Week Tuition-Free Intensive Course in Monterey and
The Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) and
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), in support of
the U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security
Administrations Next Generation Safeguards Initiative, are
pleased to announce a one-week, tuition-free, intensive course
on international nuclear safeguards policy in Monterey, CA,
and up to six paid summer internships at Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory in Livermore, CA.
The International Nuclear Safeguards Policy and Information
Analysis Course will be held in Monterey from June 1 - 5,
2015. The course is tuition free and open to all nationalities.
Some stipends will be available to non-local applicants to
partially cover transportation and housing costs. Course
applicants who are U.S. citizens may also apply for a ten-week
paid internship (June 8 to August 14, 2015) at LLNL. The

in the nuclear nonproliferation regime

Concepts, objectives, evolution and history of


international nuclear safeguards

State-level safeguards analysis

Case-study analyses of safeguards challenges

Introduction to safeguards inspection, material


accounting, containment, and surveillance

Applicants must be a currently enrolled graduate


student or a young professional with an interest in
nuclear nonproliferation/safeguards. We are especially
interested in applicants who demonstrate how a deeper
understanding of international safeguards policy will aid
their professional pursuits. To be eligible for LLNL
internships, applicants must be U.S. citizens.
