Special information such as CAUTION and WARNING are especially highlighted by ‘means of symbols in the corresponding chapte:s of this user manual. ‘The system itself is marked in hazardous areas with CAUTIONWARNING and/or with the symbols in each case, 4.6.1 Organizational measures The required personal protective equipment is to be provided by the owner. All existing safety devices are to be checked at regular intervals. In all correspondence regarding this X-Ray module, please quote the type and serial numbers. These specifications are indicated on the nameplates of the individual compo- nents. 1.6.2 Safety impairments In case the safe work would no longer be ensured, the system must be put out of opera- tion and be secured in such a manner that its unintentional operation is impossible. The responsible service organization must be informed immediately about it. 1.6.3 Requirements to be met by operators and service staff Warning: Potential Hazard! ‘The X-Ray modules XRP may be operated only by skilled, trained and instructed personnel! Instruction in operation of the X-Ray tube should be confirmed in writ- ing Calibration, maintenance and repair of the system may only be carried out by qualified persons being aware of the hazards and risks emanating from the sys~ tem, For the safe and correct operation of the system, it is indispensable for the user and service staff to observe the generally applicable safety regulations and the safety reminders contained in this instruction handbook The radiation protection must be checked and monitored again by authorized per- sons after each maintenance or r 1.6.4 Electrical safety None but qualified maintenance technicians are allowed to remove the system covers, and to dismount the high-voltage cable trom the X-Ray tube and high-voltage generator. Itis prohibited to operate systems having technical defects. Itis prohibited to bypass, 4.6.6 Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) This system meets the requirements of the EMC standards indicated in the declaration of conformity (see chapter 1.11), ‘When properly used, this electronic appliance meets the statutory EMC provisions defin- ing the emission level for electronic appliances and their shielding against electrical fields. Nonetheless, it is not possible to absolutely exclude the possibility that the frequencies of high-frequency transmitters, e.g. mobile telephones or similar appliances which them- selves meet the EMC provisions, may influence the trouble-free functioning of this appli- ance when they are used in the immediate vicinity of this appliance. Therefore, the use of this system in the immediate vicinity of electronically used appliances with high transmission power should be avoided in order to exclude any high-frequency interfer- ence. Explanation: Electronic appliances that meet the EMC provisions, are manufactured so that under normal conditions there will be no risk with respect to high-frequency interference. None- theless, electromagnetic interference caused by appliances with a high transmission power cannot be completely ruled out if these appliances are used in the immediate vi- nity Under the most unfavorable circumstances a risk for the operator cannot be completely ruled out. For this reason, operation of all appliances with a high HF radiation should be avoided. Radiation protection DANGER Danger: X-radiation! ‘With the high-voltage switched on, this system generates X-Rays which in case of misuse can be detrimental to health, The system may only be operated by skilled qualified personnel. The safety key has to be kept in a way that the system is prevented being uninten- tionally switched on, The system owner is responsible for observing the legal regulations when installing and using the system. Itis prohibited to operate systems having technical defects. It is not allowed to bypass, remove or modify safety devices. The radiation protection must be checked and monitored by author- ized persons. It must be checked again a’ter each maintenance or service intervention. The radiation protection of the system is guaranteed by the manufac- turer according to the German X-Radiation Regulation and the DIN 54 113. Moreover, the system meets the US-American norm 21CFR §1020.40 (Cabinet X-Ray systems). ‘Warning: Potential Hazard! All components intended for switching on X-radiation of the system (e.g. control unit XRG or external push buttons or PC connected to the XRG) are to be set up outside the X-Ray cabin and/or X-Ray space. Itis strictly prohibited to allow that X-radiation can be switched on within the X-Ray room or cabin. As far as radiation protection rooms and cabins are concerned, it is appropriate to provide an electromagnetic door interlocking. A potential free contact is available for this door locking. The connected interlocking magnet is only released after the post healing time (radiation protection) has elapsed. During the post heating phase (yellow warning light) this electric charge will be dissipated by the tube current and the measuring resistor. In nor- mal cases, this phase is very short (0.2 — 0.3 s) so that itis not dis- cenible In exceptional cases, when the system is switched off when the fila- ment is cold (e.g. no tube current was flowing before switching off the system), this post heating phase may last up to 1 s. If the filament is, defect, the capacities are only dissipated via the measuring resistor. In this case, the discharging time can be up to 4 s (if an especially long high-voltage cable is used). During the post heating phase, all warning lights are stil it and the interlocking contacts are stil active (cf. chapter 3.7.3 and 3.7.4) 1.6.8 Safety and warning devices In order to comply with the relevant radiation protection standards and regulations in the country or at the location of the module, the customer must ensure that the appropriate safety devices are connected to the X-ray module and to the overall system. The electri- cal supply of the module must be installed in compliance with the standard EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery — Electrical equipment of machines. The safety circuits are de- signed to meet the requirements of the machinery directive 2006/42/EC of the European ‘Community, considering that the safety related parts of the module must achieve the category 3 and performance level d of the international standard EN ISO 13849-1 The door switches installed into the X-Ray module or cabinet must fulfil these safety lev- els according to EN ISO 13849-1.
