About the Speaker: After graduating
from UNI with a degree in foreign languages, Larry
Brown was recruited by the CIA. He served as a
CIA operations officer in Washington and the
Middle East from 1968 to 1973, and in various
military intelligence positions from 1974 to 1998.
He returned to Iowa, where he taught French at
UNI and Iowa State. He retired as a colonel,
Military Intelligence, from the Army Reserve. He
has taught several classes on intelligence and
espionage, covering the history of American
intelligence from World War II to the present, and
in particular on the Cold Wars spy wars between
the United States and the Soviet Union. A Waterloo
native, Brown now resides in Malcom with his wife
Michelle.
