DALTONS BACKGROUND
John Dalton was a English Chemist,
meteorologist and Physicist.
Best known for work in development in
Atomic Theory.
Dalton was also known for his research in
color blindness

DALTONS ATOMIC THEORY

Dalton claimed elements are composed
of only one kind of atom and
compounds are two or more kinds of
atoms.
Daltons theory contained 5 key
principles:

DALTONS PRINCIPLES
Principle #1
All matter is composed of extremely small particles
called atoms, which cannot be subdivided,
created, or destroyed.

DALTONS PRINCIPLES
Principle #2
Atoms of a given element are identical in
their physical and chemical properties.

DALTONS PRINCIPLES
Principle #3
Atoms of different elements differ in their physical
and chemical properties.

DALTONS PRINCIPLES
Principle #4
Atoms of different elements combine in
simple, whole-number ratios to form
compounds.

DALTONS PRINCIPLES
Principle #5
In Chemical reactions, atoms are combined,
separated, or rearranged but never
created, destroyed, or changed.

JOHN DALTON
Dalton suffered 3 strokes in his life. The
second left him speechless and the final
one caused his death.
Daltons work is carried on through
modern chemistry.
