CHAPTER-6 VALIDATION OF PROBLEM

6.1 Problem Definition:

Validation has been carried out for portal frame, by comparing STAAD results

with the manually calculated forces and displacements.


Portal frame has been chosen on the basis that the INTEGRAL BRIDGE is

considered as the frame for analysis purpose.


As temperature effects are noticeable in Integral bridges, the temperature

variation is considered for the frame also.


Stiffness method has been adopted for the purpose of analysis.
Data regarding the problem modelled in the STAAD PRO is shown in figure
below:

To rectify the error in manually calculated value of moment in z direction

moment distribution method was applied to further check the result.


The result so obtained are shown in figure below:
