2001 Edition Mechanical/Electrical Field Inspection Guidelines Foreword The Field Inspection Guidelines included in this handbook are intended to provide Bechtel Field Engineers and Construction Inspectors with a set of general inspection guidelines and reminders based on generally accepted industry practice. The items included in this handbook are not intended to replace specific construction contract requirements, manuals, or industry standards. Rather, they are intended to provide reference materi- al on good work practices and inspections typically recommended for the specific type of work covered. Users of this handbook must consul the specific construction contract, design documents, applicable industry standards, and project procedures before performing actual field inspections for acceptance of the work These guidelines are provided as one source of employee devel- ‘opment information to help ensure that consistent quality work on the project © 1997, 2001 Bechte—.gxd-5709-11/01 Mechanical/Electrical Field Inspection Guidelines Table of Contents Number Title General Gt Construction Inspections G2 Construction Safety G3 Equipment Tag/Lockout G4 Receiving and Storage Gs Design Document Control G6 Material Control G7 Measuring and Testing Equipment G8 Control of Deficient Items: G9 Records Retention Heavy Lift Rigging G21 Rigging Method Selection G22 Rigging Performance G23 Movement by Transport G24 Mobile Cranes. Determine what is required to be inspected. Determine the frequency of inspection required. Determine the method of inspection Determine requirements for thir-party inspections. Develop a formal plan for project inspection activities, 2 Check all approved design drawings including any approved changes associated with the work to be inspected. Review material requirements for the materials to be used and obtain material samples for use in inspection activities where appropriate. Review project procedures and/or the contractor quality plan to determine requirements before starting any inspection activities. 'dentity which forms or documents must be completed to document field inspection activites. During Inspections Check that only approved materials have been used. W For materials that cannot be visually verified after installation, establish controls to ensure that the correct materials have been used, Use material samples to verity that the in-place materials match submitted samples, when appropriate. Check key dimensional requirements including location, size, clear- ances, spacing, and other key dimensions for the installation, @ Perform any required inspection verification testing such as slump testing, torque verifications, and pressure test verifications. Ensure that properly controlled and calibrated materials and testing equipment (M&TE) devices are used for verification testing, (2 When worker qualification requirements exist, ensure that qualified personnel have performed the work 2 Document al inspections per project procedure requirements Ifa formal quality control program is implemented on the proj- ect, document all inspections performed on the required form. v op o o ee Field inspection Guidelines © 1997, 2001 Bechtel Gt Construction Inspections Guideline G-1 €.
