In my visual display, ! made sure to direct it towards the main focus of the upcoming holiday, Earth Day, and the upcoming unit, Ecology. The main theme was that our hands can change the world, just by doing little things, like reducing, reusing and recycling. | used some things | found from teacherspayteachers.com and made sure to include some kid friendly definitions. | created all the hands myself using a hand drawn ‘tracer and drew and cut out each hand to add some pop of color and leave less “white space” around the edges. | also created the world by hand. Every day I would have most of the books in a basket in front of the board with a few different books on display each day to draw their attention. Since | had so many books, the students were constantly engaged and browsing through the books. Each and every student used this text set multiple times a day, often pausing to read what the board said. | used this visual for a “Three R's” activity we did to remind them what each one was and meant. | would also sometimes put out other things | found like a list of things they can do called the “Earth Day Challenge’, just for something extra they could participate in.
