WHAT IS CORPORATE SOCIAL


RESPONSIBILITY

The term refers to a business practice that involves participating in initiatives that
benefit society, e.g. if company X was to donate $10,000 to a charity Y.

WHAT FORMS DOES CSR TAKE?


There are 3 main forms:
a) Environmental - Most companies, big or small, have drastic carbon footprints
globally. To help this, companies can do various acts of CSR to reduce these
footprints, for example, a company can use environmentally-friendly energy
solutions to operate their workplaces.
b) Philanthropy - Businesses can donate to global or local charities.
c) Ethical Labour practices CSR can also be demonstrated by a business by
providing their employees with good working conditions, sources of motivation etc.

EXAMPLES OF CSR LOCALLY AND


GLOBALLY

#1: Microsoft:
Microsoft has established a CSR program called Citizenship in which they help
people or small businesses globally discover their full potential.

EXAMPLE 2: EQUITY BANK KENYA

They have established the Equity Group Foundation in 2006 and aim to provide
people who are not financially stable with opportunities to make it to the modern
economy through financial aid.

EXAMPLE 3: SHELL

They have invested in various low-energy consumption technology to save the


environment.
